Description
The drinking fountain, now disused, dates from the late 19th century and is located in the grounds of the Brewery Arts Centre, southwest of number 118. It was moved to its current site from outside Windermere railway station in the late 20th century. The fountain features a moulded limestone plinth and a stepped cornice, with snecked slate infill on each face between rough-dressed, margined limestone quoins. It is octagonal in shape and approximately 7 feet high, topped with a cast-iron lamp that is also around 7 feet tall. The alternate faces of the fountain have carved limestone lion's-head spouts with projecting marble bowls underneath, as well as a small semicircular aperture in the plinth. The cornice is decorated with incised 'stencil' patterns. The lamp includes foliate consoles attached to a patterned octagonal base, and a fluted column that supports a tapered lantern with a finial at the pyramidal top.
