Description

This drinking fountain, dating from around 1868, is located in the Market Place of Shepton Mallet. It is constructed from a variety of English stones, including Cornish granite, Doulting limestone, Cornish serpentine, and Pennant sandstone. The fountain features a square Gothic design with a plinth, crocketed gables, and finials. The gables are adorned with armorial shields set within blind trefoils. On the west side, there is a metal drinking trough, and at the base, a trough for dogs. The fountain is surrounded by cast gratings over a drain around the plinth.
