Description
The drinking fountain, dating from the late 19th century, is made of sandstone and is located adjacent to No. 2 (Lambs' Garage) on Station Road in Hornby-with-Farleton. The fountain features a cast lion's head spout set within a recess that has a moulded pointed arch. In front of the spout, a trough is created by a low wall with coping that is segmental in shape. Surrounding the fountain is a rubble wall topped with a moulded coping that sweeps upwards at the center. Above the arch, there is a plaque carved with a cat holding a rat, which bears the monogram of Pudsey Dawson and the date '1858'. This plaque was originally part of the first Cat and Rat Bridge, which carried the Wennington to Morecambe railway line over the A683 west of the village, before being replaced by an iron bridge when the track was doubled.
