Description

This late 19th-century police station is constructed from snecked sandstone rubble with a slate roof. It has two storeys and three bays. The windows are rebated and chamfered; those on the ground floor have straight drip moulds, and a separate drip course above. A single-storey canted bay window is set into the left-hand bay at the front, featuring two lights, a light on each canted side, and additional lights on the main wall. The second bay has a four-light mullioned window. The first and second bays on the first floor each have a six-light mullioned and transomed window. The third bay projects slightly under a hipped roof and has mullioned windows with round heads to the lights; three are on the ground floor and four above. A door with a Tudor-arched head, set within a stone doorcase topped with a pediment containing four blank panels, is located on the right-hand side. A lower section is set back to the left of the front facade. A single-storey porch, set in the angle between this lower section and the gable wall, has a Tudor-arched doorway with the word 'POLICE' inscribed on the lintel. A chimney is located on the left-hand gable, and to the left of the third bay. The right-hand return wall features two first-floor mullioned windows with round-headed lights, set under a hipped roof.
