Description
This is a house located at 34 Soutergate in Ulverston, dating from the mid-18th century and altered over time. The exterior features painted roughcast walls and a slate roof, with three storeys and two window bays. The windows have narrow painted surrounds and projecting sills. The right-hand ground floor window is a sash without glazing bars, while the others are 20th-century casements. The left-hand ground floor window has been enlarged. The central doorway is framed by a red sandstone surround and topped with a stone hood supported by brackets. There are chimneys on both the left and right sides of the building.
Inside, the left-hand room on the ground floor is partly lined with raised and fielded panelling and has a timber cornice. The oak dogleg stair, located centrally at the rear, features a closed string, turned balusters, and fluted newels. The cupboard doors beneath the stairs are made of pine and have ogee-headed raised and fielded panels. The doors on the ground and first floors each consist of two panels.
