Description
The Victoria Concert Hall, now the premises of the Emanuel Christian Centre and a shop, is a concert hall that dates back to 1850 and has been altered in the 20th century. It is attributed to Websters of Kendal. The building is constructed of stone rubble with painted render and features a slate roof. It has two storeys and a symmetrical facade with five bays, adorned with a frieze decorated with laurel wreaths. The ground-floor openings have plain painted surrounds, while the first-floor windows are glazing-bar sashes with painted plain surrounds that rise above a storey band and have aprons below the window sills. The central bay is gabled in the form of a pediment, flanked by pilasters, and features paired round-headed lights. The left side has two further bays that project forward under a gable with a rusticated ground floor, while a similar wing on the right-hand end has been rebuilt and is now a single bay.
