Description
Nos 145 and 146 on Slerra in Higher Clovelly are a pair of cottages that date from the late 17th century or 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. They are built from rendered and whitewashed materials over a rubble core and feature a straw-thatched roof with undulating eaves and gable ends. The cottages have a tall 19th-century brick chimney stack on the ridge to the right, along with low rendered stacks on the ridge to the right.
The layout includes No 145, which has a central entrance hall flanked by two small rooms, each heated by an axial end stack. No 146, located to the right, has an entrance hall on the right side, with a room to the left that also has an axial end stack backing onto No 145.
In terms of exterior features, the cottages are single storey with an attic. The first floor has a 1:1 window arrangement, with a 19th-century 12-pane casement of two lights to the left and an 18th-century two-light casement with square-paned leaded lights to the right. On the ground floor, there are two 12-pane two-light 19th-century casements and two door openings. No 145 has a 19th-century plank door and a rustic lean-to porch, while No 146 features a lean-to 20th-century porch with a 19th-century glazed door and a slate roof. The interior has not been inspected.
