Description
Nos. 127 and 128 Turnpikegate are a pair of thatched cottages dating from the 18th century. They are constructed from rubble and cob, rendered and whitewashed, with a thatched straw roof. The roof is gabled on the left and hipped on the right, featuring two rendered and whitewashed ridge stacks.
The cottages have a plan consisting of two single-room units, with No. 127 on the left having a gable end stack, and No. 128 on the right featuring an axial stack at the join between the two. There is also a lateral stack at the centre of the rear.
The exterior is two storeys high and symmetrical, with three windows on the first floor. These are 20th-century two-light casements with glazing bars. On the ground floor, there are two windows with shallow projecting drip-hoods, along with a further small window in the centre of the first floor, likely a stairlight. The ground floor door openings have projecting slated porches with mono-pitch bitumenised slate roofs and plank doors. To the right of the front, there is a small single-storeyed gabled rubble outshut that includes a two-light casement.
The interior has not been inspected.
