Description
This is a cottage located at 116 Turnpikegate in Higher Clovelly, dating from the 18th century. It features rubble and cob walls that are either rendered or roughcast and whitewashed, topped with a gable roof that is slated. The cottage originally had a single room on the ground floor with direct entry, but it has since been subdivided into two rooms, and a lean-to has been added at the right end.
The building is single storey with an attic. On the ground floor, there is a small 4-pane casement window to the left, which dates from the 19th century. On the left side of the building, there is a 2-light 19th-century casement window on the ground floor and a small 4-pane casement window in the attic. The door opening is centrally located on the main road frontage, featuring a projecting porch with a lean-to slate roof and rubble walls, along with a plank door. The interior has not been seen.
