Description
4 and 5 High Street are a pair of cottages dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, possibly built at slightly different times. The cottages have rendered and plastered cob walls and gable-ended roofs, with slate on No. 4 and corrugated asbestos, likely over thatch, on No. 5. Each cottage has a brick stack at the outer gable end.
In terms of layout, No. 4 has a one-room plan, while No. 5 features a two-room plan with the right-hand room heated. Both cottages are two storeys high and have two-window fronts. No. 4, on the left, has a three-light late 19th-century casement window to the left and two 2-light 20th-century casements above. It also has a 20th-century part-glazed door to the right. No. 5, on the right, has early 20th-century casements, with a two-light window to the left and a three-light window to the right, along with a 19th-century plank door at the centre. The interior has not been inspected but may include features such as open fireplaces and ceiling beams.
