Description

A pair of cottages located on High Street, Exbourne, likely dating to the late 17th or early 18th century. The walls are rendered cob, and the roof is thatched, with a gabled section on the left and a hipped section on the right. A projecting rubble stack, rendered and with a brick shaft, is at the left gable end, while a rendered lateral stack is at the rear of the right-hand side.

The cottages were originally built with a 2-room plan; the left cottage (No. 1) has a gable-end stack for heating, and the right cottage (No. 2) has a rear lateral stack.

The front of the cottages presents an asymmetrical 3-window facade, with a 2:1 arrangement. No. 1 has late 20th-century PVC casement windows and a 19th-century gabled porch on the right side, behind which is a panelled door. No. 2 has a small-paned 19th-century 3-light casement window on the first floor, and two 2-light casements on the ground floor - the left window is 20th-century, while the right is 19th-century. A similar porch to that of No. 1 is located to the right of centre.
