Description
Willhay Cottage is a 17th-century cottage with 19th and 20th-century additions, located in Exbourne. The building features rendered cob walls and a thatched roof, which has a gable at the left end and is hipped at the front of the wing. There is a brick axial stack. The original layout was likely a two-room plan, with the larger room on the left heated by the axial stack. An outshot was added to the front of the right side of the house, reportedly for use as a shop, and this was made two storeys high in the 20th century. The exterior is two storeys tall with an asymmetrical two-window front, featuring small 20th-century two-light casements, with one window in a half dormer on the first floor. A 20th-century glazed door is located at the centre, beneath a thatched door hood. The wing projects to the right. The interior does not show any visible early features, but some may be hidden.
