Description
Higher Porthmeor Farmhouse is a farmhouse built around the early 19th century, featuring adjoining walls at either end. The structure is made of granite rubble with granite dressings and has an asbestos slate roof with brick chimneys at the gable ends. The rear porch is covered with slurried scantle slate. The farmhouse has a shallow double-depth plan, consisting of two rooms at the front separated by a cross passage that likely leads to a staircase connecting to shallower service rooms at the back.
The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical southeast front that has two windows. There is a 20th-century door, original 12-pane hornless sash windows on the right, and 20th-century windows on the left. The rear features a central lean-to porch with a side entrance and late 19th-century sash windows.
The walls at the front left and right are remnants of what is likely an 18th-century house, with a blocked doorway and small window openings. One window features a 17th-century two-light mullioned window head that has been reused as a lintel. The farmhouse is part of an unspoiled coastal hamlet situated within the ancient field system of this area in Cornwall.
