Description
Mowhay is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, which includes front garden walls and gate piers. The building features granite ashlar walls and an asbestos slate half-hipped roof with 20th-century brick chimneys on the side walls.
The farmhouse has an unaltered double-depth plan with two rooms at the front: a parlour on the left and a wider kitchen living room on the right, flanking a cross passage that leads to a stair hall between rear service rooms. There is a later service wing on the right.
The exterior is two storeys high and nearly symmetrical, with a three-window southwest front and a doorway located to the left of the middle. The original openings have been retained, featuring a 20th-century ledged door within a 20th-century glazed porch. The windows are late 19th-century or 20th-century four-pane horned sashes. The rectangular garden in front has low rubble walls that return to a gateway aligned with the house's doorway, which is marked by granite monolithic piers.
Inside, the farmhouse retains many original 18th-century features, including a dog-leg stair with turned balusters and two-panel doors.
