Description
Anhay Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with extensions added in the early to mid-19th century. It features shale rubble walls with dressed granite quoins, sills, jambstones, and lintels. The roof is covered with asbestos slate and has brick chimneys on the gable ends. The layout consists of two large rooms, likely a parlour on the left and a kitchen living room on the right, with a central entrance hall. There are later service wings extending at right angles to the rear on both sides, creating an overall U-shape. The building is two storeys high and has a nearly symmetrical southeast front with three windows, featuring original 12-pane horizontal sliding sashes. The wide central doorway has an original six-panel door, with the top four panels later glazed. The rear mostly retains original windows, either horizontal sliding sashes or vertical 12-pane sashes. The interior has been slightly remodelled in the 19th century for access to the wings but has seen very little alteration since, preserving much of its 19th-century carpentry and joinery detail. Anhay Farmhouse is notably unaltered, with both the front, rear, and sides remaining in their original or 19th-century form, and is particularly distinguished by its exceptionally wide front.
