Description

Chyvarloe Farmhouse is a circa early 19th-century farmhouse and includes front garden walls. It is constructed of shale rubble and dressed granite walls, with dressed granite quoins and jambstones, slate sills and shallow brick arches. The roof is half-hipped, covered in scantle slate, with brick chimneys over the side walls. The building features a plan comprising a kitchen/living room on the left and a parlour on the right, with an entrance passage. A central stair leads between the rear rooms of the kitchen and dairy/pantry, connected by a passage under the stair landing. The south front is nearly symmetrical, with three windows and a central doorway containing a ledged door. The ground floor has 20th-century windows, while the first floor has circa late 19th-century eight-pane horizontal sliding sashes. The interior was not inspected. A dressed granite coped rubble garden wall runs along the front, with a central entrance gateway featuring dressed granite round-headed piers. The farmhouse is one of four comprising a small hamlet, set within unspoiled coastal surroundings.
