Description
The dung pit walls located north-west of Carminowe Farmhouse date from around 1860. These walls are made of shale rubble and feature dressed granite copings that form a kerb, along with retaining cobbled walkways in front of the farm buildings. The rectangular pit has a floor that slopes down to the north, with walls on the east, west, and north sides. Carminowe has been an important manor since the 13th century and is part of a planned group of farm buildings, with the dung pit serving as a central feature for drained dung storage for the adjacent shippons, piggeries, and stables.
