Description
Hawthorne Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 19th century. It features granite that is faced and brought to course, with dressed granite quoins, sills, and flat keyed arches. The roof is hipped and covered with grouted scantle slate, sloping lower at the rear, and there are brick chimneys on the side walls. The eaves have a cast iron ogee gutter. The layout includes two front reception rooms on either side of a central passage that leads to a central stair, with rear service rooms under an integral outshut and small hipped 20th-century extensions on either side. The building is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window front facing southwest. There is a central doorway with a 20th-century door and a cemented surround in the position of a former doorcase or porch. The original windows are hornless 12-pane sashes. The interior has not been inspected.
