Description

Polgrean Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of granite rubble with granite dressings and features scantle slate roofs with brick chimneys over external stone stacks at the gable ends. The building has cast iron ogee gutters.

The farmhouse has a slightly irregular L-shaped plan comprising three main rooms, along with a later 19th-century lean-to at the rear right and a 20th-century conservatory on the left side. The layout includes a parlour in the front left wing, a stair hall behind it, a kitchen behind the stair hall, and another reception room on the far right. This reception room has a roof that runs at right angles to the parlour and kitchen range, with an entrance hall and pantry located towards the angle.

The exterior is two storeys high with a regular arrangement of one and two window fronts positioned at right angles to each other. There is a doorway located below the left-hand first-floor window of the two-window front, featuring a 20th-century glazed door. The original windows are 16-pane horned sashes.

Inside, the farmhouse remains largely unaltered, retaining most of its original carpentry and joinery. This includes a dog-leg stair with stick balusters and a mahogany handrail that runs over a turned newel post.
