Description
Roskrow Barton Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century. It features a front made of granite ashlar, while the rest is constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings. The roof is steep and covered with asbestos slate, and there are granite ashlar stacks over the coped gable ends, along with an outbuilt stack at the left-hand end. The farmhouse has cast-iron ogee-section gutters.
The building has a double-depth plan, with two rooms at the front flanking a wide entrance hall that leads to a stair hall. This stair hall is situated between a back kitchen on the left and a service room on the right, with a 19th-century dairy built at right angles behind the right-hand side.
The exterior is two storeys high and nearly symmetrical, featuring a three-window south-east front. The doorway is approximately central and set within an old granite porch, with an original six-panel door. The windows are original tripartite hornless sashes with glazing bars, some of which still contain original crown glass. The wide window openings are spanned by keyed flat arches.
Inside, the farmhouse has a simple design with most of its original carpentry and joinery intact, including the first floor and roof structures. There is an open-well stair with rectangular balusters and probable two-panel doors that have been boarded over. The back kitchen contains a large fireplace with a domed granite and brick oven, located behind the left-hand jambstone.
