Description

This is a farmhouse dating from the early 19th century. It was originally built as a dower house for the Basset family. The front of the house has a granite ashlar plinth, stuccoed walls, and a slate hipped roof with projecting eaves. The house has an L-shaped layout, with a two-room front garden facade and a two-room-deep service wing set at right angles behind it. Further accommodation for servants was originally positioned at right angles to the service wing. An entrance hall and stair hall are situated between the garden front and the service wing. A later 19th-century service wing extends behind the right-hand room, running parallel to and connecting with the original service wing.

The south-west garden front is symmetrical with two windows, and has no visible doorway. The north-west elevation of the service wing, with three windows, features an original 24-pane hornless sash to the stair hall (on the right), an original 16-pane hornless sash to the first floor (left), and an original 20-pane hornless sash at ground-floor level (left). Two other sashes on this elevation are later replacements. The south-east entrance front includes a blind window on the left, a round-headed doorway with a six-panel door and original fanlight in the centre, and a three-window front on the right with pointed arched window openings and blind tympana. The original 16-pane hornless sash immediately to the right of the doorway and the 16-pane sashes to the first floor are original. The interior of the house has not been inspected.
