Description

This is an early 19th-century post office and shop, originally built with two cottages flanking it. It is located at Perranwell Station. The building is constructed of painted killas rubble with granite steps, sills, jambstones, and ground floor lintels. The roof is covered in asbestos slate, with a painted brick chimney on the right-hand gable end. The building was originally planned with a central shop of one-room width, and a one-room-width cottage to either side at the rear. A single-storey shop was originally on the right-hand side, and one of the cottages has since been incorporated into the main shop. A single-storey extension was added to the rear of the main shop in the 20th century.

The front of the building has a near-symmetrical three-window arrangement. It features a double shop front with a central doorway. The doorway has a 20-pane flat shop window to the left and a 24-pane bowed window to the right, both with narrow pilasters and fascias incorporating a complete entablature. The entrance door is new with top glazing and a blocked overlight. Doorways to the original cottages are located to the left and right of the shopfronts; the left-hand doorway retains a panelled door and blocked overlight, while the right-hand doorway has a six-panelled door. The upper windows are four-pane horned sashes. The single-storey building on the right-hand side has a wide doorway on the left and an original two-light casement with 12 panes per light in the centre of the front elevation. The interior of the building was not inspected.
