Description
Myrtle Cottage, including the wall to the south, is a small house dating from the early 19th century, accompanied by garden walls at the front. The building is constructed of roughly-coursed killas with dressed elvan quoins, sills, and jambstones, featuring elvan-keyed shallow brick arches. It has a grouted scantle slate roof with painted brick chimneys at the gable ends. The layout consists of two equal front reception rooms on either side of a passage that leads to a central stair, with shallow rear service rooms on both sides. The cottage is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window south front with a central doorway that features a 20th-century door. There is a 19th-century cast iron shallow box porch that is closed at the sides but has ornate pierced ironwork at the front. The windows are horned 12-pane sashes, and some original internal window shutters remain. The interior has not been inspected. The front is enclosed by a grouted low rubble wall with dressed granite piers and copings, topped with a wooden dowel and rail fence and a close dowelled gate.
