Description
The toll house, dating from the early 19th century, has been converted into a domestic garage. It features painted rubble walls with dressed quoins and jambstones, slate sills, and shallow brick arches. The roof is hipped and covered with scantle slate, and there are brick chimneys with cogged cornices on the side walls. The building has cast iron ogee gutters. Originally, the plan included two small rooms on either side of a central entrance vestibule or cross passage, but it now has a large 20th-century doorway at the rear. The west front is symmetrical with two windows, and there is a central doorway with a six-panel door. The windows are boarded over, likely to protect the sashes. The interior has not been inspected. This toll house is a good example of simple early 19th-century design and is externally nearly complete, aside from the garage door at the rear.
