3/362 Toll house at SW 781 398 NE

GV II

Toll house, converted into domestic garage. Circa early C19. Painted rubble walls with dressed quoins and jambstones, slate sills and shallow brick arches. Hipped scantle slate roof with brick chimneys with cogged cornices over side walls. Cast iron ogee gutters. Plan originally of 2 small rooms flanking central entrance vestibule or cross passage. Now with large C20 doorway at rear. Single storey. Symmetrical 2-window west front. Central doorway with 6-panel door. Windows boarded over, probably protecting sashes. Interior not inspected. An example of simple early C19 toll house design which is externally virtually complete except for garage door at the rear.
