Description

The Gate House is a toll house that has been converted into a residence. It was built in the early 19th century, altered in the mid-19th century, and extended in the late 20th century. The structure is made of limestone rubble, with the front being regularly coursed and dressed, while the sides are uncoursed. It features a graded slate roof with wide, spreading eaves over a splayed central section.

The original toll house includes a slightly projecting canted bay at the center, flanked by lower one-bay ranges on either side, which received an upper floor in the mid-19th century. The building has two storeys and features 19th-century casement windows: one in each lower range and another in the added floor of the right range. The central section has a 19th-century casement on each side of a 20th-century door, which is set beneath a 20th-century gabled porch, along with a window above the door. There is an integral yellow brick chimney stack at the right end. A two-storey red brick addition at the rear, built in the 20th century, is not of special architectural interest.
