Description
Rock Cottage is a toll house that has been converted into a residence, dating from around 1840, with a 20th-century addition at the rear. The building features a mix of materials including rubble, rendered surfaces, and slate-hung cladding at the first floor level. It has a brick porch and a low-pitched tiled hipped roof with head rolls at the hips. There is a rubble chimney stack at the rear, a slate roof on the rear wing, and an asbestos slate roof on the 20th-century addition.
The cottage has a square one-room plan with the entrance located on a splayed corner and a chimney stack on the side wall. The stairs are situated in an original service wing at the back. The building stands two storeys high, with three sides visible from the front. The central narrow splayed corner features a gabled porch with a slate-hung gable and a 20th-century door, along with a small two-light casement window above.
On the left side, there is a two-light casement window with glazing bars on both the ground and first floors. The right side has a similar two-light casement at ground level and a 16-pane sash window on the first floor, along with a single-storey lean-to set in the angle. The large two-storey 20th-century addition on the right end has two windows with casements, slate-hung at the first floor level and rendered below. The left side of this addition features a single light with glazing bars at the ground floor. The rear wing includes a lean-to. The interior has not been inspected.
