Description
The Methodist Church, dated 1861, is constructed of rubble that is rendered and lined out, topped with a slate roof featuring bargeboards on the front gable end. It has a single auditorium layout with the entrance located at the liturgical west end beneath a gallery. The building is single storey with a basement, and the gable end facing the road displays a triple lancet window, with the central lancet being taller. Above this is a pointed arched breather, and there is a central pointed arched doorway with double doors flanked by plain rails. The front area is enclosed by trefoil-headed railings with double gates made of cast iron, set on a granite rubble wall topped with granite coping. Each side of the church has three lancet windows, while the right side includes a basement, which is set into the slope of the ground, featuring a 4-centred arched door and three triangular-headed 2-light casements, each with five panes.
Inside, there is a blind pointed arch on the rear end wall with a hood-mould and corbels at the inner springing of the arch. The roof consists of three bays with arched braces and collars, which are chamfered and ceiled above. The church contains a full set of box pews, a reading desk supported by chamfered piers with cusped panels at the front, along with a candelabra and communion rail. An upper gallery encircles the front and sides, supported by chamfered piers, with a staircase located at the front right and a moulded handrail along the front of the gallery. The entrance at the front is boxed and panelled, featuring a 4-panelled door on each side, with the panelling sweeping down to the sides.
