Description
This building, originally a house, is now used as a shop and offices and is part of the reconstruction for a museum. It dates from the early 19th century, with later 19th-century additions to the rear and 20th-century alterations. The structure is made of slatestone rubble and features a slate-hung, hipped slate roof with brick stacks on both the front and rear slopes, and a rubble stack to the rear left with a brick chimney.
The layout includes a shop on the left and an office space on the right, with the shop entrance at the front and the house entrance on the right side. The building has an irregular L-plan due to the rear additions. It is two storeys high with three windows on the front. The first floor has two 12-pane sash windows in exposed boxes and a bow-fronted 16-pane sash window on the right. The ground floor features a paired 8-pane sash window on the left as the shop window, a panelled door with an overlight, a fascia board above, and a 12-pane sash window on the right.
The right side of the building has three bays with 12-pane sashes at both the ground and first floors. The second window from the left is a panelled door with an overlight and a flat hood. Attached to the left is a single-storey storage shed made of slate and granite rubble, which has a 20th-century 8-pane light, a paired 8-pane sash, and a door. At the rear, there is a two-storey wing with a separate hipped roof, partly slate-hung, and a 1½ storey lean-to addition in the angle to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
