Description
The Old Post Office is a house and shop, now used as a house, likely built in the early 19th century, with a shop added in the later 19th century and some subsequent alterations. The building is constructed from rendered stone rubble and features a slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends, along with gable end stacks.
The layout consists of a double depth plan with a central entrance. The main rooms are located at the front left and right, each heated by a gable end stack, while there are shallow service rooms at the rear. Around the mid-19th century, the front ground floor was modified to accommodate a shop, and a passage was added on the left side for access to the rear rooms and the first floor.
The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical two-window front. On the first floor, there are two 19th-century 12-pane sash windows in exposed boxes. The ground floor features a continuous fascia and moulded cornice, with a four-panelled door and overlight to the left. The shop front includes two canted bays with panelled stall risers, each containing a six-pane light with top margin glazing, and central panelled and glazed double doors with round-arched glazing and an overlight. There are two granite steps leading to the door, and the upper gable end on the right side is slate-hung. The interior has not been inspected.
