Description
No 12, located on the north side of Fore Street in Calstock, is an early 19th-century house that has undergone some later alterations. The building is constructed from slatestone rubble, with some areas finished in slate-hung cladding. It features a hipped slate roof with rear lateral stacks that have brick shafts. The house has a two-room plan with a central entrance, and each room is heated by a stack located at the rear. The front of the building is bowed, as it is situated on a corner site.
The exterior consists of three storeys above a basement, with a nearly symmetrical three-window front. The ground floor features a central six-panelled door with a decorative overlight, flanked by pilasters and topped with a modillion cornice. On either side of the door, there are 20th-century plastic sash windows, with the windows on the ground and first floors to the right having brick segmental arches. The central window on the first and second floors is blind. The bay to the left is partly slate-hung. The cellar, located to the left and built into the slope of the ground, has a small plank door and a two-light casement window. On the right side of the building, there is another six-panelled door to the left. The interior has not been inspected.
