Description

CALSTOCK THE ADIT, Calstock SX 4268-4368 9/58 The Old Bakery GV II House with attached shop, now house. Early - mid C19 ; addition for shop of circa late C19, with later alterations. Painted stone rubble. Hipped slate roof with ridge tiles. Axial stack with brick shaft. Plan: 2-room plan, with central entrance ; room to left probably originally heated from a stack at the left end, room to right heated from a stack originally at the right end, now in an axial position. In circa late C19, and addition of one-room plan was made at the right end, for a shop, which was a bakery. Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical 2-window front ; ground floor has off-centre plank door with overlight, to left a C19 16-pane sash with segmental brick arch, to right a similar 12-pane sash and a lower cellar light with segmental brick arch. At first floor there are two similar 12-pane sashes. The shop to right has 2-storey, with C19 4-pane sash at ground floor. At the right side is the shop front, a 12-pane window with pilasters and cornice; first floor has C19 12-pane sash with segmental brick arch. At the rear is a small single storey lean-to which forms a porch for a C20 half-glazed door. The rear of the main house projects beyond the addition for the shop, and has a 10-pane stair light.
