Description
No 9 is a house and shop located on the north side of Fore Street in Calstock, dating from the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century and a few later changes. The building is constructed of rendered stone rubble and features a slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends, along with gable end stacks.
The plan of the building is double depth, originally designed with a central entrance and rooms on the front right and left. In the mid to late 19th century, the front was remodeled, resulting in the entrance being moved to the left and a large shop created on the right, with shallow service rooms at the rear.
The exterior comprises two storeys and three windows. The first floor features 18th-century 12-pane sash windows in exposed boxes. The ground floor has a continuous fascia and cornice, with a six-panelled door and overlight to the left, and a canted double shop front with plate-glass windows to the right. The shop front is adorned with slender colonnettes at the angles, with pointed arches on the outer sidelights and round arches on the inner sidelights, along with a central glazed door and overlight. The interior has not been inspected.
