Description
43 Silver Street is a house that now serves as both a residence and a shop. It dates from the 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the early and late 19th century. The facade is made of Ham Hill stone ashlar, likely from the early 19th century, while the left side is constructed of rubble. The roof is covered with double-Roman pantiles, hipped on the east side and gabled on the right, featuring a brick stack positioned to the left of center and a small gable on the left return. The building has a four-unit plan, with horizontal three- and four-light casement windows on the first floor. A 20th-century door is located on the far right, accompanied by a four-light casement window on the inside right. There is also a 20th-century shop with a shop window added to the front left and in the left return.
The rear of the building showcases early 19th-century rough ashlar, with a two-storey gable on the left that includes an 8/8-pane sash window set in a forward frame, along with wooden lintels over French windows that have an overlight on the ground floor. Projecting forward is a flat-roofed room, likely from the early 19th century, featuring a lead roof and Ham Hill stone coping on the parapet wall. This room has a door on the left return and a 20th-century two-light window facing the garden to the south. Inside, the structure has been significantly altered, but it retains an open fireplace to the right of the stack with an oak beam. The main room features mostly early 19th-century details, including elliptical arches and a reeded cornice. The roof has not been observed.
