Description
39 Silver Street is a house that has been converted into two shops. It dates from the late 18th century and was altered in the late 19th century. The facade is made of Ham Hill stone ashlar, while the rest of the building is constructed with Flemish-bond brick. It has a slate roof with stepped stone copings and moulded kneelers, along with brick stacks at the gable ends. The building has a double-depth plan with a rear range to the left and stands three storeys high with a two-window range.
The original house featured keystones and platbands between the floors, but the lower platband is now hidden behind a late 19th-century shop front. This shop front includes a fanlight above set-back central 20th-century doors, with plate-glass windows between colonnettes that have moulded tops. Panelled pilasters support gabled consoles that flank a moulded cornice, which has been shaped to support two projecting canted bays on the first floor, featuring 2/2-pane sash windows with moulded cornices. The second floor has two additional 2/2-pane sash windows. Inside, the remaining features are from the late 19th century, including four-panel doors and fireplaces.
