Description
No. 37 is a house that now serves as a house and shop, built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from Ham Hill stone ashlar and features a slate roof with stepped stone coping and a stone stack on the left gable end. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys tall with a three-window range.
The windows on the right and the first-floor window on the left are wide early 19th-century 8/8-pane sashes. There are steps leading up to a Tuscan doorcase with an open pediment, which frames a semicircular fanlight with intersecting glazing bars. The door itself is also early 19th-century, featuring six panels with three long panels at the top and three short panels at the bottom. Above the door is a round-arch sash window with four over eight panes, including margin panes and intersecting glazing bars at the top.
A moulded cornice is present at gutter level, and there is a platband between the floors. The shop on the left side was likely added later in the 19th century; it is set forward between the door and the left wall, which has also been extended on the ground floor and rises to meet the house. The shop has a door on the left side.
To the right of the door, there are spearheaded railings on a platform at doorstep level, enclosing a small forecourt. The property also includes part of the building attached to the left, No. 35. The interior has not been inspected.
