Description
No. 6 West Street is a house that has been converted into a shop, dating from the mid-18th century. It is built from rough Ham Hill stone ashlar and features a pantile roof with stepped stone coping, a moulded kneeler, and a brick stack on the right gable end. The building has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys tall with a three-window range.
The front, which faces west, has a left-of-centre 20th-century door that is sheltered by a flat hood supported by scrolled metal brackets. Below this door is a square 4/8-pane sash window with a wooden lintel. On either side of the door, there are early 19th-century tripartite sashes with six panes each that extend to the eaves. To the left of the door is a plain fixed window from around 1980, which has a top vent. To the right, dominating the ground floor, is a late 19th-century shop front featuring two plate-glass panes on each side, colonnettes with ornamental tops, and double glazed doors set within a canted bay. Above this, on the first floor of the right return, is a tripartite window with one-over-one panes, set under a segmental arch. The interior has not been inspected.
