Description
No. 9 East Street is a house that has been converted into a shop, dating from the mid-18th century. It features a painted render facade with coursed limestone rubble on the sides, and a steep-pitched, tarred slate roof with stepped stone copings and brick stacks at the gable ends.
The building has three storeys and was originally designed with a symmetrical three-window arrangement, although a 20th-century shop front has been added to the left. There are two steps leading up to a late 19th-century four-panel door with an overlight, set within a painted stone doorcase that includes a pediment and consoles. It is likely that the original door was an eight-panel design without an overlight. A plat-band runs along the level of the pediment.
To the right of the door is a tripartite window featuring late 19th-century horned 2/2-pane sash windows, with a similar window above it. The window to the left on the first floor has been replaced with a 20th-century plastic version. Above the door, there is a Venetian window with a late 19th-century horned 2/2-pane sash. The second-floor windows have 1960s metal frames in altered openings. The building's rusticated quoins are adorned with dentilled and moulded cornices beneath the moulded kneelers. Additionally, there is a small attic window located to the left of centre on the left return. The interior has not been inspected.
