Description

No. 13 Low Ousegate is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries, including a shopfront added in the 20th century. The front of the building features rusticated stucco and has a timber cornice with dentils and modillions. The rear is constructed of grey-brown mottled brick laid in stretcher bond, topped with a slate roof that is hipped at the front and gabled at the rear, complete with brick stacks.

The exterior is three storeys high with an attic and has a one-window front. The shopfront includes a central door with an overlight and plate glass windows on either side. The first-floor window is a six-light canted bay with a dentilled cornice, while the second floor features two 2/2 sash windows with narrow sills in plain raised surrounds. There is one box dormer in the attic, which contains a 2x2-pane sliding sash window. An inverted bell rainwater head is located at the left end of the cornice.

At the rear, the ground floor is obscured, but the first floor has a 16-pane window, and the second floor has a 4-pane sash window, both with a one-brick segmental arch above. The attic has a smaller 4-pane sash window beneath a cambered soldier brick arch, and there is a fluted bowl rainwater head. The interior has not been inspected.
