Description
10 and 12 Low Ousegate are a pair of former houses with shops, built between 1810 and 1820. No.10 features a mid-19th century shopfront, while No.12 has a 20th-century shopfront. The buildings are constructed of orange brick for No.10 and brown brick for No.12, both in Flemish bond, with window arches made of orange gauged brick. They have a moulded stone eaves cornice and a slate roof.
The exterior is four stories high with a four-window front. The central door, which has six raised panels and a radial fanlight above, leads to a rear yard and is approached by stone steps. The doorcase features a moulded round arch supported by pilasters with imposts. The shopfront to the left is framed by channelled pilasters below a plain frieze and shallow moulded cornice, with a blind box above. The shop door is margin-glazed and panelled, situated between elliptical small-paned bow windows that have thin glazing bars, over beaded panelled risers.
On the first floor, No.10 has two unequal 15-pane sash windows, while No.12 has two 8-pane sash windows. On the second floor, both houses have unequal 9-pane sash windows, and on the third floor, they feature squat 6-pane sash windows. All windows have sills and flat arches. The interior has not been inspected. No.12 was first listed on June 24, 1983.
