Description

Nos. 3 and 5 Low Ousegate are two houses with shops, built between 1810 and 1820, which now have a combined shopfront from the 20th century. The exterior was renovated in 1992. They are constructed from orange-grey brick in Flemish bond, featuring window arches made of orange gauged brick, although No. 5 is completely painted. The buildings have a timber mutule eaves cornice and a slate roof with brick stacks.

The front is four stories tall with irregular window arrangements. Each house has two 12-pane sash windows on the first floor, with No. 5 also having an additional tall 8-pane sash. On the second floor, both houses have one unequal 9-pane sash, with No. 3 having one blocked window and No. 5 having one unequal 6-pane sash. On the third floor, each house has one squat 6-pane sash, with No. 3 having one blocked window and No. 5 having one 4-pane sash. All windows feature flat arches of brick, and those on the second and third floors have sills. Additionally, two painted cast-iron cats are attached to the fronts; one is on the sill of the blocked second-floor window of No. 3, and the other is on the wall between the second-floor windows of No. 5. The interior has not been inspected.
