Description
The Midland Bank, located in Crewkerne, is a house that has been converted into a bank. It dates from around 1840 and is likely a refronting of an earlier house, with restoration work completed around 1970. The building is constructed from Ham Hill stone ashlar and features stepped stone copings on a slate roof, which has brick stacks at the gable ends, one of which is truncated.
The bank has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with a three-window range. The facade is designed with gauged stone arches over the openings, an eaves cornice, and rusticated quoins. The facade is angled forward to align with the street. The first floor contains 8/8-pane horned sash windows, while the ground floor has recessed openings that were added around 1970. The interior has not been inspected. The building is included for its group value.
