Description
No. 21 Market Square is a house that has been converted into offices, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It features a Flemish-bond brick exterior with a dentilled brick eaves cornice and Ham Hill stone keystones above the upper windows. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has a brick stack at the right gable end. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with a two-window range. The second floor contains 3/6-pane sash windows, while the first floor has 6/1-pane sash windows. On the ground floor, there is a raised and fielded 6-panel door located left of centre, accompanied by an early 19th-century shop window with four rows of five small panes to the left. To the right, there is a tripartite sash window with 6/1 panes. All these features are set beneath a projecting fascia with a moulded cornice. The interior has not been inspected. This building is a rare example of a brick town house facade in this area.
