Description
No. 15 East Street is a house raised above the road, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from coursed and squared limestone, featuring Ham Hill stone rusticated quoins, a moulded cornice, and a basement, topped with a slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys high with a symmetrical three-window range. The windows have gauged flat stone arches and vary in height: the central tripartite sashes have 6/6 panes on the ground and first floors, and 3/6 panes on the second floor. The side windows consist of 6/6-pane sashes on the ground floor, 8/8 panes on the first floor, and 3/6 panes on the second floor. The basement windows feature segmental arches, and the entrance is located to the right (east). Although the interior was not inspected, it is noted to have an elliptical top-lighted stairwell.
In front of the house, there is a rough Ham Hill stone ashlar revetment wall with coping, which is attached to the south-east corner of No. 13. This wall supports spearhead railings with urn finials. To the right, there are similar wrought-iron gates with a slightly dipped top rail, adjoining Merefield House. Additionally, a round arch with a keystone and cornice is attached to the south-east corner of the house.
