Description

No. 25 is a house from the early 19th century, constructed of rough limestone ashlar with a slate roof. It features stepped stone coping with moulded kneelers and brick stacks with moulded cornices at the gable ends, while the sides have rendered walls. The house has a single-depth plan with three rear wings.

The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical layout with a widely spaced three-window range. The entrance consists of a wide six-panel door topped by an ornamented semicircular fanlight, all set within a Ham Hill stone classical-style doorcase that has a dentilled cornice and an open pediment supported by engaged fluted columns. Above the door, there is a round-arched four-over-eight pane sash window with intersecting glazing bars at the top, framed by a reeded archivolt with a keystone and imposts. The side windows are eight-over-eight pane sashes within moulded architraves.

The interior has not been inspected.

Attached to each side of the house are walls that rise to a single-storey height, curving in an ogee shape almost to the eaves. The left wall features a wide segmental arch that leads to a carriageway, while the right wall conceals a single-storey wing with a six-panel door beneath a late 19th-century four-over-four pane sash window in a moulded architrave.

The front garden is enclosed by late 19th-century cast-iron railings that curve back to the door, resting on a Ham Hill stone plinth. The railings are designed with closely intersecting circles and have diamond-shaped finials and bases. The plinth steps down toward the right, and double gates of a similar design provide access to the right wing.
