Description

Two cottages, dating back to the 17th century with alterations in the early 19th century. They are constructed of limestone rubble with a pantile roof punctuated by a central brick stack. Each cottage is two storeys high and has a two-window front. The cottages now display 20th-century 2-light casement windows. The cottage on the left has a beam inserted at first-floor lintel level, possibly indicating a previous wall plate. It also retains two casements on the ground floor. The cottages have paired, early 19th-century two-vertical-panel doors. The cottage to the right has one 2-light casement with new lintels above the window and door. The right return side features a 20th-century rubble stone wall that replaced original cob construction to the first floor.

The cottage to the right has a lobby entry with a newel staircase located close to the door. The staircase is said to have previously had oak treads. A planked oak door with a cockshead hinge leads to the staircase, and the first floor features wide oak floorboards with other planked doors. The cottage on the left has a mirrored floor plan but similar features.

Early 19th-century railings with small spearheads, along with a working gate, are located at number 9 on the right. These railings contribute to the overall group value of the properties.
