Description

These are two cottages located in Court Barton, Ilminster. Built in the early 19th century, they are constructed from limestone rubble with a continuous pantile roof. A stepped stone coping features on the left gable end, and there is a central brick stack. Each cottage has a central entrance and is two storeys high. Both are symmetrical, with a two-window range.

Number 5, on the south side, has wooden lintels over what appear to be 20th-century windows. The first floor windows are 6/6-pane sashes with horns and forward frames. The ground floor has 2-light casements with glazing bars, framing a planked and studded door with a Moorish-style top. A slightly swept-up flat porch is supported by metal brackets.

Number 6, to the right, has 4/4-pane sashes without horns, set in forward frames and under wooden lintels, flanking a 20th-century planked and studded door with strap hinges, and two inserted first-floor windows. It has a hipped porch covered in cedar shingles. The interior was not inspected.
