Description
No. 27 Market Street is a house with a shop, built in the late 18th century and enlarged in the late 19th century. It features coursed limestone rubble with a Ham Hill stone ashlar platband and a large gabled attic. The slate roof has stepped stone coping on the left gable and brick stacks at both gable ends. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, presenting a three-window range. The mid to late 19th-century double shopfront includes pilasters and a central doorway. The first floor has late 19th-century horned 2/2-pane sash windows set under flat gauged arches, with a plat band above. A large late 19th-century gabled dormer features a 2/2-pane round-arched sash window with a keystone and a moulded arch on imposts at the center, flanked by two 2/2-pane sashes, resembling a Venetian window. The interior has not been inspected.
