Description
No. 17 Market Street is a house that has been converted into offices, dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed from Ham Hill stone ashlar and features stepped stone coping on a slate roof, with brick stacks at the gable ends. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high, presenting a symmetrical five-window facade. It is adorned with rusticated end pilasters and a moulded cornice. All windows are 6/6-pane sashes set within moulded stone architraves. The central doorcase is highlighted by a segmental pediment supported by engaged Tuscan columns. The door, which is from the late 19th century, has two long glazed panels at the top, with bolection moulding on two square panels in the centre and one horizontal panel at the base. The interior has not been inspected. Surrounding the forecourt are spearhead railings with urn finials, set on a Ham Hill stone plinth, and there are 20th-century double gates that match the railings.
