Description
No. 10 Market Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone some alterations in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed from coursed limestone rubble, with lower courses made of Ham Hill stone. It features a cornice and flat coping on the parapet, which is stepped at the gable ends. The doorcase is made of reconstructed Minster stone. The roof is slate with brick stacks at the gable ends.
The layout is double-depth with a rear extension, and the building has two storeys with a symmetrical three-window arrangement. On the first floor, there are flat stone arches above a plate-glass sash window, flanked by tripartite plate-glass sashes. The central doorcase, dating from the 20th century, is in a Tuscan style and includes a tall elliptical overlight. The shop windows, added around 1970, are plate-glass and have moulded Minster stone frames. A lead downpipe with wide fixings and a bell-shaped hopperhead is located at the far left corner. The interior has not been inspected.
