Description
9 Market Street is a Grade II listed building located in Crewkerne. This structure, which likely began as two houses, dates from the early 19th century. It is built from squared and coursed limestone, featuring rusticated quoins made of Ham Hill stone, a moulded cornice at the eaves, and doorcases. The roof is half-hipped and covered with slate, with low brick stacks at the gable ends. The building stands three storeys tall and has a four-window range.
The upper two floors are adorned with flat gauged stone arches above 8/8-pane sash windows. The original front door openings have been converted into shop windows, featuring recessed elliptical arches with imposts; one is located at the far right, and the other is beneath the inside-left upper windows. To the left, there is a late 19th-century shop window with a central and side colonnettes, and round-headed, reeded consoles supporting the fascia. The shop to the right is a 20th-century addition, taller than the original structure, with a door positioned in the centre. The interior has not been inspected.
